Sausage-fest!
Interesting things happen to one's body due to ALS. One of the most trivial effects I have noticed involves my fingers. I am quadriplegic so my hands spend all their time on a (relatively) flat surface. Grasping or any voluntary flexing of my fingers has been nothing but a memory for years. This allows the skin to tighten and smooth a bit.
You know those little wrinkles over your knuckles on each finger? I don't have any anymore! I noticed this during physical therapy a few weeks ago and wondered what these little keratin-tipped bony alien hotdogs were doing at the ends of my hands. Truly a sausage-fest.

Eric, that is some interesting stuff I wish you never had to find out about, but interesting nonetheless. You have the perfect opportunity to break the Gunnies book of records for longest finger nails, but the guy in India has the record and might be hard to break... Nasty looking as well. Start a new category "straight finger nails" or something... when we find a cure and get you back on your feet "I hope" you can just cut them off....
ReplyDeleteI am sure Claire is going to kick my ass for this ;)
The only Guiness record I care about involves beer... Unfortunately I am not as young as I once was and the price for record attempts is now too high. The irony of life: When you are old enough to afford the beer but too old to cope with the hangover.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, hangovers suck... I do remember you at the lake with the berz club, trying to make up for some lost time. Sunday packing was unbearable.....
